Matir Maya — the affection of the soil — is the first resort in Bangladesh with houses made entirely of natural mud.
The idea
A village house, held to a resort standard.
Rural Bengal has always built with earth because earth works: thick walls keep the midday heat out and hold warmth after dark. We kept that method exactly, and then finished the rooms the way a traveller expects — air conditioning, complimentary Wi-Fi, rain showers, plush linen, tea and coffee in the room.
The grounds were planned around what was already here — the old trees, the lake, the open field. Nothing was cleared to make room for a building that could have gone somewhere else.

Mud, brick, timber and tile. Local materials, local craft, and a building that returns to the ground when its time comes.

Privacy and quiet
Villas are spread across the grounds rather than stacked. Balconies face trees and water, not other balconies.

Banglar Rosui cooks Bengali dishes from locally sourced ingredients, from bhorta and river fish to barbecue evenings.
